Course Description
The Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) course provides healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to recognize, assess, and manage stroke patients in both the prehospital and hospital settings. The course emphasizes the importance of time-sensitive interventions and a systematic approach to stroke care, including the use of standardized tools for assessment and decision-making.
Audience
This course is suitable for:
- Healthcare providers, including paramedics, nurses, physicians, and other professionals involved in stroke care.
- Emergency and critical care staff in prehospital and hospital settings.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke, including stroke mimics.
- Use the Miami Emergency Neurologic Deficit (MEND) exam to conduct a focused neurologic assessment.
- Understand the pathophysiology of stroke, including ischemic and hemorrhagic types.
- Identify patients eligible for time-sensitive treatments, such as thrombolytics or endovascular therapy.
- Initiate prehospital stroke management and ensure rapid transport to a stroke-ready facility.
- Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration in a multidisciplinary team for stroke care.
- Discuss post-stroke complications and secondary prevention strategies.
