Course Description

The Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course is designed to improve the quality of trauma care and increase the survival rate of trauma patients in the prehospital setting. This internationally recognized course focuses on the principles of trauma assessment, evidence-based treatment, and rapid transport of critically injured patients. PHTLS is developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

Audience

This course is suitable for:


  1. Prehospital professionals, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and first responders.
  2. Healthcare professionals involved in the initial management of trauma patients in prehospital or emergency department settings.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:


  1. Perform a rapid trauma assessment to identify life-threatening injuries.
  2. Apply evidence-based treatment protocols for managing trauma patients.
  3. Prioritize and manage airway, breathing, and circulation in trauma cases.
  4. Demonstrate hemorrhage control techniques, including tourniquet application and wound packing.
  5. Identify and manage shock and its underlying causes in trauma patients.
  6. Apply spinal motion restriction techniques appropriately.
  7. Develop a treatment plan for multisystem trauma patients based on the latest PHTLS guidelines.
  8. Understand the principles of rapid evacuation and transport to definitive care.
