Course Description

The Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed to equip participants with essential life-saving skills for providing high-quality CPR and managing cardiovascular emergencies. This course emphasizes the importance of team dynamics, early defibrillation, and effective interventions for adults, children, and infants.

Audience

This course is suitable for:


  1. Healthcare providers such as paramedics, nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals.
  2. Individuals requiring BLS certification as part of their job or training requirements.
  3. Any individual with an interest in learning critical life-saving techniques.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:


  1. Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants.
  2. Understand the American Heart Association (AHA) Chain of Survival, with a focus on the BLS components.
  3. Recognize the importance of early AED usage and demonstrate its application.
  4. Deliver effective ventilations using a barrier device.
  5. Appreciate the role of teamwork in multi-rescuer resuscitation and perform effectively as a team member during multi-rescuer CPR.
  6. Demonstrate the relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants.

Registration Terms & Conditions
Registration is through the KSU – Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz College for Emergency Medical Services website, with the required personal data:


  1. Writing the full name as it will appear in the certificate, the name will not be modified after that.
  2. Using valid e-mail, we recommend that you use your personal, not business, mail to ensure that you receive your certificate.
  3. Course fees (for paid courses) must be paid to ensure your registration is confirmed.
  4. Contact information are added to PSCEMS automated mailing list for educational, research & marketing purposes. Applicant may modify/delete his subscription upon request.

Attending Courses

  1. Courses held at PSCEMS- KSU – Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz College for Emergency Medical Services.
  2. Maintain attendance and leaving time according to pre-set session time.
  3. Demonstrate the values and ethics of attending training courses such as good listening, literature in discussion and dialogue.

Certificates

  1. To obtain the course certificate, the trainee must attend the entire training course in which he/she is registered.
  2. Passing the tests (if applicable).
  3. The certificate is sent within one week of the last day of the course, after passing the test (if applicable).

Cancellation and Refund

  1. If the participant wants to cancel the registration application or postpone the attendance date, an application must be submitted to the KSU – PSCEMS - Business unit at least 30 days before the session, and the PSCEMS has the right to accept or reject the request.
  2. Courses that may schedule within less than 30 days, cannot be rescheduled or fees refunded, and registration is the student’s responsibility.
  3. In the event that the participant wants to request a postponement of a course due to a medical excuse (Medical Report has to be provided), the course will be rescheduling for one time only without penalty.
  4. In case if the participant would like to postpone the attendance date if one of the two conditions above applied, this can only be done once and within 3 months’ period from the first booking.
  5. In the absence of the trainee from attending the course, he loses his right to claim a refund.
  6. Participant who comes 15 minutes late will not be able to attend the course and will be considered as ABSENT/NOT SHOW.
  7. KSU – Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz College for Emergency Medical Services reserves the right to cancel any training course or change its appointment in the event of circumstances outside the control, and the trainees shall be notified accordingly. The trainee has the right to recover the course fees.
  8. In the event that the minimum course participants are not completed, the KSU-PSCEMS has the right to postpone the course date, and the participants have the right to accept the postponement or refund the course fees.
  9. In the event that the participant is entitled to a refund, the KSU - PSCEMS does not bear the shipping/administration/bank fees, and in the event that a course book or attachments are used, it will be deducted from the value of the refunded fee.
  10. The refund process may take 45 days from the time the order is received.

Intellectual Property Rights

  1. Commitment to preserving intellectual and scientific rights, copyrights, copying and distribution related to all products and services of the KSU – Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz College for Emergency Medical Services.
  2. Copyright and all other intellectual property rights of all training materials are the exclusive property of the KSU – Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz College for Emergency Medical Services.
  3. The trainee is not allowed to print or copy the training materials for the purpose of publishing them for any reason.
  4. The participant and training materials are designed for the purpose of completing training on the training course only.

AHA Courses Guidelines
Dear AHA HS, BLS, ACLS and PALS Students, Welcome to the AHA basic and advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider Courses.

  1. Please plan to arrive on time, because it will be difficult for late students to catch up once we start. Students are expected to attend and participate in the entire course.

What We Sent You
We have enclosed the agenda and your copy of the HS, BLS, ACLS & PALS Provider Manual EBooks. Use the following steps to access the Student Resources:

  1. Visit https://elearning.heart.org/courses.
  2. Find the course name (instructor: insert the exact course name from the catalog here).
  3. Once you find your course, select Launch Course to begin.
  4. *Note: If you haven't already logged in, the system will ask you to do so. If you haven't visited the site before, you'll be prompted to set up an account.

How to Get Ready

  1. The ACLS & PALS Courses are designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be both a team member and a Team Leader in either an in-hospital or out-of-hospital setting. Because the ACLS& PALS Course covers extensive material in a short time, you will need to prepare for the course beforehand.

Precourse Requirements
You should prepare for class by doing the following:

  1. Review and understand the information in your HS, BLS, ACLS and PALS Provider Manual.
  2. Review, understand, and pass the mandatory precourse self-assessment for ACLS and PALS Provider courses.
  3. Review, understand, and complete the mandatory precourse work (video lessons) for ACLS and PALS Provider courses.
  4. You must pass the precourse self-assessment before gaining access to the video lessons. Once you have passed the ACLS & PALS Precourse Self-Assessment and completed the video lessons, print your certificate, and bring it with you to class.
  5. Ensure that your BLS skills and knowledge are current for the resuscitation scenarios for ACLS and PALS Provider courses.
  6. You will be tested on adult high-quality BLS skills using a feedback manikin at the beginning of the ACLS & on Pediatric and infant high-quality BLS skills using a feedback manikin at the beginning of the PALS Course. You must know this in advance because you will not be taught how to do CPR or use an AED.

What to Bring and What to Wear

  1. Bring your HS, BLS, ACLS and PALS Provider Manual or eBook to each class. You will need it during each lesson in the course.
  2. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to class. You will be practicing skills that require you to work on your hands and knees, and the course requires bending, standing, and lifting. If you have any physical condition that might prevent you from engaging in these activities, please tell an instructor. The instructor may be able to adjust the equipment if you have back, knee, or hip problems.
  3. Note: The minimum participant’s numbers for BLS, ACLS & PALS provider courses are three.
