King Saud University and Saudi Red Crescent sign an agreement of cooperation

His Royal highness Prince Faisal Bin Abdulah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA), and His Excellency King Saud University Rector Badran Al-Omar in the presence of the Dean of Prince Sultan College for EMS signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation between the two establishments in various fields in fulfillment of their mission to help build a knowledge-based society and to promote integration and partnership between these two establishments in the exchange of knowledge . Areas of cooperation will include for example and not limited to: educational process, development of policies, rules and regulations for service provision, support of scientific research, exchange of expertise and knowledge and making data available for research and scientific publishing. The agreement also aims to better educate employees of both establishments to contribute to providing emergency medical services.  A joint working team consisting specialists from the employees of Prince Sultan College for EMS and the General Directorate for Training and Development of Human Resources at SRCA will be formed to expedite this cooperation according to the conceptions and articles contained in this agreement and participation of the two parties in supporting the efforts of the advancement of the emergency medical services.

On this occasion, the Dean of Prince Sultan College for EMS Dr. Khalid Fouda delivered a speech in which he welcomed His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority and the Rector of King Saud University, Dr. Badran Al Omar, Vice Rectors and the attendees. His Excellency the Dean also sincerely thanked all who contributed to the establishment of the college of Prince Sultan for EMS.
The Dean mentioned that the signing of this agreement comes to achieve the aspirations of our rulers and by God willing, will be one of the landmarks of success of the College in uniting the efforts to reach the desired goals and progress in emergency medical services.

The Dean added that the university has given the greatest attention to the success of the college since its establishment. A founding committee has been formed for the establishment of the college where the members of the committee made tremendous efforts in promoting the college and the demarcation of its basic rules until the college council was formed which completed the process through the distinct efforts exerted by its members until we reached what we have achieved now in record time which reflects the amount of attention. The college received the first batch only about two years ago and the number of the students was 10 transferred from the College of Applied Sciences and thank God, we celebrated their graduation in the past academic year and the college recently hosts 3 batches that have been received at the new headquarter of the college, and with the generous support of KSU the college has been outfitted by simulation labs. The University also sought with every effort to support the college with distinguished faculty members specialized in emergency medical services in spite of the scarcity of this specialty globally and locally, but the university has succeeded by God’s Will in recruiting them as part of its commitment to improving the overall outcomes of the college in all scientific and practical aspects.

And for the obvious desire for this specialty, Prince Sultan College for EMS got the third best rates for applicants to the university for the current year and the outstanding students raced to join the college, which had a significant factor in the level of the students, and in their future career.
The college also fulfilled the overall strategic plan, which was characterized by its containment to all ways and means of success where a number of workshops were conducted by a number of specialists in the field of emergency medical services who enriched with their presence the discussions and objectives reached by these workshops and among the participants were officials from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority. The college also ended the adoption of its curriculum, where we launched the World Forum on EMS education attended by speakers from four different continents, as we shared our colleagues in the Saudi Red Crescent Authority to access the plans and programs adopted by the college in preparation of its curricula.

We started the procedure currently in the Accreditation of International Committee, which by God Willing hoping to be done this year.

That is the beginning and we still have lots and lots of efforts to reach mastery and excellence in all programs offered in the college and the start of specialized programs in the domain of EMS such as disaster medicine, crowd medicine, aviation medicine and intensive care in emergency medical services.

This memo of understanding will play a significant role in achieving those goals and access to the highest international standards in this area and the excellent relationship between the two establishments will be strengthened to achieve the common goals.

At the end of the ceremony, the Members of the Founding Committee and the Members of the College Council were honored for their efforts since the establishment of the college.

On the other hand, His Highness the Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent visited the runway medical evacuation at King Khalid Hospital and was greeted by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Supervisor of the University Hospitals, Dr. Mubarak Al Faran, and the Prince received a brief explanation of the runway from the Head of the Emergency Department at the University Hospitals Dr. Zuhair Al Asiri.
